Betty Jean Nelson Hanebutt

FORT WORTH–Betty Jean Nelson Hanebutt went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the age of 87.
Celebration of life: 11 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Brown Owens & Brumley Funeral Home Chapel.
Memorials: The family requests donations are made to The United Methodist Committee On Relief and Alzheimer’s Association.
Betty was born in Austin, Texas on January 9, 1931 to Jesse and Paul Nelson. She passed away in Alamogordo, New Mexico, surrounded by her son, David Hanebutt and his wife, Sandy.
A long time Fort Worth resident, Betty earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Texas Wesleyan University and a Master’s Degree from Texas Woman’s University, both in Education. After teaching in the Fort Worth ISD, she went into administration and worked as an Assistant Principal at OD Wyatt High School and Principal at Leonard Middle School.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Paul Nelson; siblings, Robert Nelson, Paul Nelson, and Lloyd Nelson; and daughter, Danna Hanebutt Ryser.
Survivors: Sons, David William Hanebutt and wife, Sandy, Neal Douglas Hanebutt, and Stephen Lee Hanebutt and wife, Kimberly; siblings, Willeta Ann Guenter Edkins and Marilyn Sturgeon; granddaughters, Rene’ Lynn Hanebutt and Robin Hanebutt Nichols and husband, Matt; and two great-grandsons, Cooper and Tanner.
