FORT WORTH-David Wayne Welch, 54, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2020 surrounded by his family.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: Due to Covid-19, the family will gather for a private celebration of life, October 3, 2020 at Ridglea Baptist Church.
MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of David can be made to Miracle Farm or Community Hospice of Texas.
David was born on Friday, Sept 23, 1966, in Roswell NM to parents Victor Wayne Welch and Jo Jean (Lemons) Welch. David is a graduate of Brewer High School, class of 85. After high school, David went on to attend Oklahoma Baptist University. David grew up loving baseball and became a student of the game. He played baseball for both Brewer High School and OBU. David’s love for baseball carried him to many summers to Chandler Baseball Camp as a camper, then a camp counselor and rising to his dream of coaching at the camp. His passion was teaching the game of baseball to anyone who would listen. Later in life, David entered the service/hospitality field. Often you would find him valeting or driving the shuttle bus from the Marriott to the airport.
David had a very kind heart for helping others. He would literally give you the shirt off his back or his last dollar. He loved people. He was a die-hard Arkansas Razorback fan. On game day you could hear him calling the hogs. WOOOO PIG SOOIE!!! He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
SURVIVORS: He is survived by his father, Victor Welch and wife Patty; mother, Jo Jean Damron and husband, John; brothers, Ted Welch and wife, Gayle, Christopher Welch and wife, Renda; nephew, Trey Welch; niece, Briana Welch; and many other loving family members and friends.

I have not seen Coach Welch for many, many years. But he left an indelible impression on me. I was eight years old when my dad dropped me off at CBC. I didn’t know anyone and was homesick. But thankfully, I was taught to say “yessir” and “no sir” and this landed me in Coach Welch’s good graces and I ended up having the time of my life that summer and the following three summers.
I could talk for hours about Coach Welch. Like my third year at CBC when we finally tagged Coach Welch out in our rundown game for the first time since I started going to Chandler. It also meant he owed all of us PeeWees slush puppies. He offered to go double or nothing. I voted against bc I knew this was once in a lifetime. But he talked the majority into going for it. Of course we failed and Coach was off the hook.
CBC was about so much more than baseball for me and Coach Welch was the main reason why. The world has lost a great mentor and man.
Rest in peace Coach. You will be missed by many.
Ps. I’ll make sure no one mentions Colorado around you.

David was my room mate at Oklahoma Baptist University. We had many a great competitions against each other. Whether it be ping pong, wiffle ball, basketball or any other thing. No matter what he was a fierce competitor who never ever gave up. I could tell stories for hours about our time together. He had everyone convinced at OBU that we were cousins.

Ron and I are so sorry for your loss. We had the pleasure of living across the street from you on Flaxseed, and watching your family and ours grow up together.
The last time we saw David, several years ago, we climbed aboard his shuttle bus. We recognized each other immediately. Had a great time reminiscing about familys and growing up.
We pray for God’s blessings on all of his family, and healing for you all.
