NORTH RICHLAND HILLS-Fred John Butz III passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at the age of 82.

Fred was born July 3, 1937 to the late Fred John Butz Jr. and Rhoda Timmons Butz in Clarksville, Tennessee. He graduated from Miami Dade High School and attended Tarrant County College. Fred was a Life and Health insurance salesman for Americana General Life & Accident and then Prudential for 25 years. Later in life he became a certified Police Dispatcher at TCU where he served for 15 years. Fred was a US Navy veteran and a member of the Seabees. He spent his service time on the USS Batfish. The Batfish was a diesel submarine and Fred worked in the engine room. He was extremely proud of his time spent in the military while stationed in Key West. He also started Boy Scout Troup 321 and in 1989, he received the Scoutmaster Award of Merit. He was instrumental in helping many young men reach the rank of Eagle Scout including his own sons. Fred was a member of the Elks Lodge for numerous years and also a member of Center Point Church in North Richland Hills. Fred was a proud, hard working family man. Throughout his life, he always sacrificed to ensure that his family never needed anything. He could do any project or fix anything that was broken. He loved TCU and TCU Football. He had a love for motorcycles and traveling all over the country. He enjoyed model railroading, boating, cooking out, and family gatherings. Fred was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend and will deeply missed.
Survivors: Loving wife of 48 years, Marlene Joy Butz; son, Jason Butz and wife, Cecillia; son, Fred Butz IV and wife, Tammy; son, Matthew Butz and wife, Stacy; granddaughter, Shelbie; grandson, Jordan; grandson, Ethan; granddaughter, Madison; granddaughter, Samantha; grandson, Fred V; and many friends.
