FORT WORTH-James Travis Martin passed away Monday, March 30, 2020 at the age of 81.
Graveside service: 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2020 at Crowley Cemetery, 300 N. Hampton Road, Crowley, Texas 76036.
Visitation: 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, April 6, 2020 at the funeral home listed below.
James was born Friday, September 9, 1938 in Lubbock, Texas to the late Clinton and Vera Martin. He graduated from Ola, Arkansas High School. After high school, he proudly served his country by enlisting in the US Army for 3 years and the National Guard for 2 years. James was a man of many talents and could do anything and did do a wide variety of jobs consisting of farming, ranching, dairy production, National Guardsman during the Selma, AR. Riots, Army Radar in Germany, Hercules Missile Project, and even onto North American Aviation working on the Apollo missions. He then settled down with his beautiful wife Linda and became a family man with the birth of his daughter Cristy and then his son Christopher. He continued doing some other normal jobs like delivering Coca-Cola, Lone Star Pies, and Mission Tortillas. He even had his own store, J & L Food Stores with his wife Linda, and his own distributorship there for a couple years. He raised a wonderful daughter and son and did the best he could for them every day. Dealing with severe sickness for the last 30 years of his life, James never stopped trying to do more. James was always the biggest man in any room he went into. If we lost him, we would just simply look up over the shelves in the store to find his head sticking up. He was bigger than life, stronger than an ox, stubborn as a mule and as gentle as a loving husband, father and grandfather could ever be. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
James is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jimmy Dewayne Martin; and sister-in-law, Sue Martin.
Survivors: Wife of 48 years, Linda Lee Martin; daughter, Cristy Michelle Brand and husband, Barry; son, Chris Martin and wife, Kristen; granddaughter, Brooke Brand; grandson, Austin Brand; grandson, Travis Martin; grandson, Preston Martin; and brother-in-law, James Kay.

Dad,
I Love you and miss you. You taught me so much over the years. I hold the memories of me riding around with you in the van doing all sorts of crazy things very dear to my heart. I loved going to work with you and I appreciate you teaching me the value of a dollar and the hard work it takes to make that dollar. When it was you me and Papa that was awesome with me riding on that make shift milk crate center seat… Doing house repos was some crazy and adventurous times. I’ll never forget all of the close calls and strange things we saw together. You taught me more than you will ever know.. Well maybe you know now.. You taught me how to be a man and how not be afraid of anything. I will continue what you taught me in your two grandsons, Travis and Preston. I will take care of Mom, you better believe that. Dad I will never understand why you had to get sick and be sick for so long. I don’t know what we were supposed to learn from it. I hope you are looking down on me right now standing next to God saying “it is going to be ok son, now get up and dust yourself off” Dad I love you and I am so blessed you are my Father. Love your son, Christopher

We are so sorry for the loss of Jim. He was a wonderful dad to his children. He & Linda raised our fine son-in-law Chris who we feel blessed to have in our family. When Chris & Kristen got engaged,
Jim said he wasn’t sure he’d make it to the wedding. He was present at the wedding as well as being able to meet and love his grandsons Travis & Preston.
May he have eternal peace and God be with Linda and family.
With much love,
Mike & Teresa Lewis

Jim,
I miss you so much already. You welcomed me into your family and made me feel special from the first time I met you. You were an amazing man and I always loved hearing stories you shared about your life. I will always be proud to call you my Father-In-Law. Thank you for helping raise Chris into the man he is today… I would be lost without him. You instilled in him so many great things about life and about the world and gave him wonderful memories to carry on forever. Thank you for being such a loving, caring, thoughtful Grandfather to our boys. They are blessed to have both known you.
I love you Jim and I respect you so much for everything you accomplished in life and for how you never stopped fighting. While I’m glad you are finally at peace and able to rest, you will be forever missed and remembered in the very best way.
Love always,
Kristen
