FORT WORTH–John M. Mackenzie, M.D. passed away Saturday, May 22, 2021.
CELEBRATION OF LIFE: 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday, May 28, 2021 at Brown, Owens & Brumley Family Funeral Home.
BURIAL: John will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, New Jersey.
John was born March 20, 1940 in Elizabeth, New Jersey to John Matthew Mackenzie and Ruth (Pennington) Mackenzie. In 1958 he graduated from Westfield High School and then went on to earn a degree from Columbia College in 1962 and his MD at Columbia Medical School in 1965. He grew up Episcopalian but later when he had a family he attended the Presbyterian Church. Music was his passion in life and he was always involved in something musical. While in college he played the organ at St. John the Divine in New York. At St. Stephen’s Presbyterian Church in Fort Worth he played the piano, sang in the church choir and was heavily involved with the Texas Girls Choir. Throughout his life he served as a physician at St. Luke’s Hospital in NYC, in the Air Force at Carswell Air Force Base, his own private practice and Planned Parenthood. He loved boating, Alfred Hitchcock movies, Broadway shows, traveling with his children and grandchildren, making home videos but most of all watching his grandchildren do the things they loved.
John is preceded in death by his parents and former wife of 22 years, Shirley Jean MacKenzie.
SURVIVORS: Son, John Eric Mackenzie and wife, Jennifer; daughter, Laura Jean Mackenzie-Robertson; sister, Barbara Berger and husband, Gary; grandchildren, Alex Mackenzie, Allison, Mackenzie, Hayden Robertson, Jordan Catahan and Adrianna McClain.
