Mary and I first met in Oklahoma City, OK. She was a part of our Sunday School Class. When her youngest son, Justin (JP) was 6 weeks old, he was diagnosed with hepatoblastoma (cancer of the liver). Over the course of the next 18 months–2 years, we became as close or closer than any two sisters ever could be. We spent hours on end at Oklahoma Children’s Memorial Hospital helping with the care of JP. He would be in one week taking chemo; followed by 3 or 4 days at home and then another week to ten days at home. This would be followed by a repeat of the previous 3 weeks routine. Through all of this, Mary was the very strong woman that many of you have witnessed over this past 3 1/2 years with her own demon of cancer reeking havoc on her. Just before JP turned 3 years of age, it became necessary for Mary, her husband, Alvin, along with their two sons, Lee and JP to move back to Lubbock, TX. Later they moved on to Colorado, then back to Lubbock, Texas and after her divorce, Mary met and married Billy Ray and she then made her home in the Ft. Worth, TX area. Through all these moves, we remained the best of friends.

I still have a placque that hangs on my bedroom wall and as a memorial to Mary, I will share it with each of you. It is entitled, “TO A VERY SPECIAL FRIEND”

In appreciation for the many qualities that make you a wonderful friend.

For sharing the ups and downs of life, you are the sunshine of my glad days and the rainbow of my sad days.

For always being there to listen, trying hard to understand and somehow knowing how to help, you are the rose among the thorns of my life.

For giving your time and your interest so unselfishly, you shelter me from the storms of life,

My friend, you are the best part of my hard times,
the brightest of good times. My friend, I offer you this expression of my love and appreciation,

You are God’s special gift to me.

I am sure that many of you can join me in receiving this placque’s message. Mary was truly that friend to each and every one of us.

And Mary you have now finished your race on this earth so please “go rest high upon that mountain” Each of us look forward to renewing our friendship on heaven’s sunny banks!

Love, prayers, Xs and Os from this side of the Red River.

I worked with Cathy at CYES for a number of years. She was a dependable, loving employee. I knew that any child in Cathy’s program was having a special afternoon. After her health took her out of that position , she continued to be a blessing to me with her facebook messages. I am sure God has a special place for Cathy in Heaven.
Love and prayers to her family.

My mom was the best I could have wished for and she was always good to me! It’s been a while now since she has been gone and I have a son that she never got to see while she was here…but sometimes I feel it in my soul that she is watching and I’m sure she can see us. I was holding her hand and spoke to her when she left and I believe she heard me. Mom had good friends and she was a special person to a lot of people! I miss her and
I hope to see her again when I leave here.
Mom ……we all miss you! I love you.
