Fondest Memory
Dad sat in the living room with his cup of black coffee, reading and studying his Bible every morning. Our Dad was a fervent worshipper of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He took pride in dressing up for Sunday service and going out to eat afterward. Dad was a retired Southern Baptist Preacher and served in the San Angelo area. He was especially fond of visiting area nursing homes to sing and share the word of God with the residents.
Dad loved his family and reconnected with his sister’s and brother in June of 2016 during a trip back home to Ironton, Ohio. Debby went with him and it was so beautiful to see his siblings refer to his as “Junior” as they shared stories and looked at old family photos. This is where he grew up. As Dad’s health deteriorated, he moved from San Angelo to Saginaw, Texas in September of 2020. He lived with his daughter Debby in Saginaw, and was close to his daughter Dena in Benbrook. Dad never got used to the traffic in the north Texas area. He drove from the house to the gym, but that was his limit! When we drove outside of the Saginaw city limits he would say, “Are we in Dallas?”
Dad’s early work life was spent in heavy industry. Dad worked at many foundries in the eastern US. The last place he worked was at Western Iron Works in San Angelo, Texas, in the early 2000s. He was a plant manager/metallurgist. His most fulfilling job though, was that of a county preacher. When he would meet people in the community he would ask, “Do you know Jesus?”
Dad had a number of hobbies that included professional bowling and bike riding in his early years. He was committed to keeping fit and enjoyed going to the gym to swim and ride the elliptical bike. He met my step-mom Patty while in the pool singing. He said the acoustics were fabulous!
