Alleta Fay Gaddy Townley

FORT WORTH-Alleta Fay Gaddy Townley passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 15, 2019 at the age of 93.
Graveside service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at Pleasant Point Cemetery in Lillian.
Alleta Fay was born December 19, 1925 in Lillian, Texas to the late Blanche and Howard Cooper.
She grew up on a family farm in Lillian with her grandparents, Alice and Joe Campbell, along with her mother and younger brother Marshall. After graduating from Alvarado High School, she moved to the big city of Fort Worth, where she met her devoted husband of 42 years, Harry Edward Gaddy. They had a television repair business for many years in Diamond Hill where they lived and raised three loving daughters. Sadly, Edward passed away in 1988. Several years later, Fay married longtime family friend, M.D. Townley. They were married until his death in 1996.
Fay was a faithful member of Sabine Place Baptist Church and later Decatur Avenue Baptist Church, both in Fort Worth. She enjoyed many lifelong friendships with her church family and with her neighbors in Diamond Hill. She read her Bible daily, and loved animals and country music. When she was still on the farm in Lillian, she enjoyed listening to Ernest Tubb before school in the mornings. The school bus driver knew to begin honking his horn as he rounded the curve on FM 917 so Fay could finish her song before running out to catch the bus.
She also loved writing long letters to those she cared about. But it wasn’t just writing, Fay loved talking too! M.D. added a sunroom addition to their home where many enjoyable hours were spent visiting with family and friends. In the mornings, nothing was better to Fay than drinking coffee while listening to the birds chirping in her backyard. She loved the way the cardinals would sing “pretty, pretty, pretty”.

We will miss her dearly! A special thanks to the staff of Fort Worth Wellness for the care given to Fay over the final years of her life.
Survivors: Fay is survived by her four daughters and their husbands, Carole and Jerry Strother, Diane and Tommy Holland, Barbara and John Martindale, and Stacy and Woody Green; one son and his wife, Doug and Gena Townley; one sister and her husband, Louise and Jim Wells; six grandchildren and their spouses, Lara Strother and Jeff Catlin, Matthew and Jennifer Maroney, David Martindale and Josaline, Daniel and Elina Martindale, Amanda Holland, and Hanna Couch; many great grandchildren; and she also leaves many other family members and special friends.
