Barbara Akin Midkiff, age 68 of Aledo, Texas, went home to the Lord on November 20, 2021 in Fort Worth, Texas surrounded by family.
CELEBRATION OF LIFE: 11:00 a.m. Thursday December 2, 2021 at Northside Baptist Church, 910 N Main, Weatherford, TX 76086.
She was born July 28, 1953 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Elise and Joe Ned Akin. She graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1971 and Midwestern State University in 1975. Barbara had four children and stayed home with them in the early years before beginning a career in Arlington as a special education teacher. She later moved back to Wichita Falls to run Metro Photo, the family business her parents owned and operated for decades. She made many friends there through the First Baptist Church choir, Junior Forum, Rotary and as a Gold Coat Ambassador with the Chamber of Commerce. In later years, Barbara moved to Parker County where she served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) and where she met Sam Midkiff. Shortly after they met in 2015, Barbara underwent kidney transplant surgery and Sam gladly took on the role of her primary caretaker. They married in 2016, and Barbara then went on to earn her Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling from Liberty University in the Fall of 2020, fulfilling a lifelong dream and natural calling. She had been seeing clients up until the week of her death.
Barbara was a devoted follower of Christ and shared the love of Jesus with everyone she met. She loved unconditionally and always saw the best in everyone, finding ways to serve others, especially those most in need of love and compassion. She loved her children and grandchildren immeasurably. Many of her children’s friends refer to her as a second mom, and she will be terribly missed by all who knew her. Barbara loved music, especially singing in the church choir and playing the piano. At the time of her death she was a member of North Side Baptist Church of Weatherford, Texas, a community she dearly loved.
She is survived by her husband, Sam Midkiff; daughter, Stephanie (Greg) Cox of Linden, NC; son, Brandon (Rebecca) Hueber of Winter Park, FL; daughter, Valerie (Tyler) Kruse of Aledo, TX; daughter, Allison (Chris) Dolajak of Cedar Park, TX; the father of her four children, James Hueber; stepdaughter, Samantha Kemble; grandchildren, Logan and Morgan Cox; Charlotte, Grant, Claire and Catherine Hueber; Karn and Kylie Kruse and Cooper Simpson; Gavin and Andrew Dolajak; Sebastian, Gavin and Xander Kemble; and Trinity Akins and Tyrell Beverly; sister, Kathy (Bill) Thompson; brother, Mark (Debi) Akin; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Elise and Joe Ned Akin; brother, David Akin; stepdaughter, Holly Midkiff and grandson Titus Akins.
In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorial contributions to LifeGift Fort Worth, an organization that delivers lifesaving organ transplants to the recipients who need them.
