Barbara was born Wednesday, February 20, 1935 in Fort Worth, Texas to the late Norburne Toliaferro Champion and Ruth Geneva Cleveland. She was the granddaughter to a Baptist Preacher, raised her children in the Presbyterian tradition, and always followed the Golden Rule. She graduated from John H. Reagan High School, Houston, Texas and attended University of Houston. Barbara had fun times as a University of Houston Frontier Fiesta Showgirl. She was an Administrative Assistant for an oil firm as soon as she departed the University of Houston.
Barbara’s hobbies included genealogy, bridge, bowling, golf, ceramics, Cub Scout Den Mother, crochet and macramé. Bobbye, as she was best known, had fond friendships with Mary Ella, Yvonne, Wilma, Mary Jane, Donna, Merlene, Bob and Judy. She married her late husband, Kenneth Willard Varner Jr. on the 30th of May of 1958. Born and raised in the south, their life as civilians in the Army started out as a shock when they were deployed to an Army depot in Savanna (Illinois, not Savannah, Georgia). She loved the excitement of traveling Europe, while the family was stationed in Germany. She remembered the rose her husband gave her on the jetway after flying to California alone with two small children. She knew the joys of years spent living on Sear’s Revolving Credit and the satisfaction of remodeling all of her houses.
Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Willard Varner, Jr.
Survivors: Son, Andrew Benoist Varner and wife, Deana Kaee; son, Christopher Champion Varner and wife, Irma Gutierriez; granddaughter, Arwen Varner; grandson, Ryan Christopher Varner; grandson, Travis Varner; and granddaughter, Willow Varner.
