Brushana Sue Hunsaker

November 30, 1963 — December 9, 2024

Brushana Sue Hunsaker, beloved wife, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away on December 9, 2024, at the age of 61 in White Settlement, Texas. Born on November 30, 1963, to Esther and Glen Shepard Jr., Brushana was a shining light whose love for life and learning touched everyone around her.

She grew up with her brother, Richard Shepard, creating cherished memories, and pursued her education at Grady, Spruce High School, Lamar University, and Arlington University, where she earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Brushana was a dedicated educator who served with compassion and commitment in the Dallas ISD, Irving ISD, H-E-B ISD, and Independence, MO ISD, making a lasting impact on the lives of countless students.

Brushana’s adventurous spirit was reflected in her love for travel. She and her devoted husband, John Hunsaker, shared unforgettable journeys together, including riding their motorcycle to historical sites, climbing Pikes Peak in Colorado, exploring the Texas Hill Country while staying at a bed-and-breakfast with two charming burros, visiting the Bob Bullock Museum in Austin, and traveling through the Wichita Mountains to Hot Springs, Arkansas.

She found joy in hobbies that celebrated creativity and intellect, such as reading murder mysteries, making beautiful quilted blankets for her family, solving crossword puzzles, and engaging in mind-challenging games. She also cherished the arts, often attending plays at the Lyceum Theatre in Arrow Rock, Missouri.

Brushana’s warmth, intellect, and creativity left an indelible mark on her loved ones. She is survived by her husband, John Hunsaker; her mother, Esther Shepard; and her brother, Richard Shepard.

She is preceded in death by her father, Glen Junior Shepard; and sisters, Debbie Waldroup and Sherry Marshal.

Her memory will forever be treasured by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her. A celebration of Brushana’s extraordinary life will be announced in the coming days, where her loved ones will gather to honor her legacy and the beautiful memories she left behind.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Brushana’s honor to support education and the arts, causes she deeply cherished.

Rest in peace, Brushana. Your love, laughter, and adventurous spirit will live on in our hearts.
