He was born Burford King Isaacs Jr. in 1919, in Fort Worth, to the late Burford King Isaacs Sr. and Lyda Mae Restor. He attended High Mount and Lily B. Clayton grade schools, E.M. Daggett Middle School and Central High School (Paschal) and graduated college from the University of Texas at Austin in 1941 with a BBA degree in business with a minor in petroleum engineering and a concentration on Central and South American trade relations. He joined the peacetime Air Force following graduation but resigned to accept the position of vice consul in Bahia Blanca, Argentina, South America. It was during his foreign service when he and Virginia Jane Farrell were united in marriage in 1942, in Westover Hills, Fort Worth. They both lived in Argentina until Juan Peron took power in Argentina and forced the closing of the consulate in Bahia Blanca after which he was stationed in Honduras. When the United States officially entered World War II, he returned to the United States where he was commissioned in the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific Theater of War as an ensign aboard the USS Lander and is a veteran of the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. In route for the invasion of Japan, detonation of the atomic bombs forced the surrender of Japan, and his mission became the occupation of Japan at Osaka and Wakiama. He returned after the war to Fort Worth and to his wife, where he became successful in the trucking and oil business. Burford was an officer and board member of the Brazos River Authority, Tarrant County Water Board and a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity, the Petroleum Club and other civic organizations. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, backpacking and camping in Colorado and New Mexico and golfing at River Crest Country Club as well as snow skiing during Christmas in Aspen, Colo., with his family. Burford was indeed a man of the Greatest Generation and a father who will be missed and always remembered and loved.
Survivors: Daughter, Cheryl; sons, Dana and Brooke; grandchildren, Michael, Paul, Lauren, April and Heather; great-granddaughters, Addison, Olivia, Marlowe and soon-to-be great-grandson, Jeordie; nephews, Clay and Wiley, and their many beautiful children and grandchildren.
