Memorial Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at Christ Chapel Bible Church in the Oak Room at 3701 Birchman Ave. in Ft. Worth, TX.
Cheryl was born on March 29th, 1950, in the West Texas town of San Angelo. She was born to a WWII veteran, Edgar Harold Baxter and hairdresser, Gladys Evelyn Baxter. Cheryl was the middle child of the family. Cheryl loved her older sister Lana and adored her little brother Harold. She was an adventurous tom-boy who loved to play outside and ride her bicycle. She was a good student and learned to play the saxophone at 12. The family lived in several small towns in West Texas as her Dad worked in the oilfields. At about 13 years old the family moved to Lake Worth Texas where Cheryl went to Lake Worth High School and graduated in 1968. She was very active in the band, choir, and various clubs and organizations. She began driving at 14 and fell in love with cars and driving. In fact, once she could buy her own cars, she changed cars like most people change clothes. She was active, loved the outdoors and all animals. She enjoyed water skiing, playing tennis and camping. She was always busy finding fun things to do. Right after High School, she went into X-ray Technology School at Harris Hospital in Ft. Worth. After completing X-Ray Tech school, she started working at Harris Hospital as an X-Ray technologist. Later, Cheryl continued her college education became a Radiology Technologist and began doing MRI's. After a vacation to Oregon with friends, Cheryl fell in love with the Oregon coast. Soon after, she moved to Portland, Oregon where she continued her career in the Medical Field at the VA Hospital. Cheryl loved the area around Portland and especially the Oregon coast. She made lots of great friends and spent as much time as she could with friends and enjoying in the outdoors. Later Cheryl moved back to Texas to be close to family and worked at the VA Hospital in Temple and then Temple's Scott & White Hospital. Years later her mom's health declined and she moved to Ft. Worth to help take care of her mom. She continued her medical career in Ft. Worth conducting MRI's at Radiology Associates before retiring from the medical field. Soon after, she and her best friend Roisann started their own real estate business called Baxel Properties. They bought and sold houses and even refurbished and flipped quite a few of them. Cheryl really enjoyed helping people get a house sold or purchased. In about 2015 they closed the company and Cheryl really retired.
Now for the MOST important aspects of her life. Cheryl first felt the tug of the Lord call to her at age eight! Yes, she was eight years old when she followed her ten year old sister, Lana, down the church isle to accept Jesus Christ. When she was 14, she began to doubt that she really understood what it meant back when she was an 8 year old, so she answered the alter call again to be baptized. When Cheryl was 21 years old and attending college she had a Christian Professor that changed the whole trajectory of Cheryl's life. After two semesters with this professor and many private talks and prayers, Cheryl began to really embrace the call of Jesus to make disciples everywhere. She began to really study God's word and learn what it truly means to be a Christian. Cheryl talked about Jesus to anyone that would listen and converted many people to Christianity over the years. She also went on several international mission trips helping with medical treatments and spreading the good news of Jesus. Very early in Cheryl's life she learned that she loved to write. As she grew as a Christian, she began sharing Christ through her writings. As an accomplished poet, Cheryl wrote many poems in her life; actually, hundreds of poems speaking of Jesus and his salvation that is available to all. Cheryl has ministered and prayed for so many people in person, on Facebook and through her own website. Cheryl touched many people in her life and will be sorely missed. She will continue to touch people with her poetry which can be seen on her web site, www.poetrybycheryl.com.
