BURLESON — Coy D. Townsend, 91, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2015.
Celebration of life: 2 p.m. Friday at Crestmont Baptist Church, 640 N.W. Tarrant Ave., Burleson. Interment: Coy will be laid to rest with his wife, Mildred, in Burleson Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Brown, Owens & Brumley Family Funeral Home.
Coy, the youngest son and seventh of eight children, was born Aug. 12, 1923, in Liberty, Okla., to Emily and Walter S. Townsend. As a young man, he left Oklahoma and served two tours in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Wyoming and had many stories to tell. He married Mildred Crabtree on July 11, 1942, and they lived most of their married life in Fort Worth. After 30 years as a switchman with the Southern Pacific Railroad, he retired and built his own house in Bonham. He later moved to Burleson to be close to family.
Coy was known as a man who could fix anything. He was a hardworking man, a good husband and a father who taught his children the value of hard work and responsibility. He will be deeply missed by family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mildred, in 2010; and all his siblings.
Survivors: Son, Larry Townsend and wife, Darlene; daughter, Gloria Ayars and husband, Bill; grandchildren, Scot Townsend, Nicole Wooldridge, Alan Ayars and Lara Soriano; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family and friends.
