FORT WORTH — David C. Young passed away peacefully Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, at the age of 81.
Celebration of life: 11 a.m. Monday at Brown Owens & Brumley’s Joe B. Brown Memorial Chapel with Dr. William Longsworth officiating. Interment: David will be laid to rest in Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
David was born June 12, 1932, to the late Carl and Belle Young in Tyler. David served in the USMC from July 1950 to July 1954. He served in Korea for 13 1/2 months and returned at age 19 in March, 1952 after earning two Purple Hearts, Korean Combat medal and four Bronze Stars, UN Service medal, plus nine additional medals and 10 more commendatory medals. He also served three years in the USMC Reserves. David was vice president and general manager of Rollins Truck Leasing for 36 years.
David was a pilot from 1957 to 2007. His love of flying kept him going for years until he grounded himself due to a medical condition.
Flying was the second love of his life, second only to his wife Virginia and his entire family. He loved God and talked to him many times, especially in Korea, and continued the rest of his life. He was amazed He kept him around for so long as there were many occasions He could have called him home.
During his years in Fort Worth, David was active in many organizations: American Legion, life member of VFW and life member of USMC unit G/3/1. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Fort Worth since 1976.
David says the best part of his life was being married to his wife, Virginia, who he will love through eternity and is his survivor. He asks all his friends to help her now that he is gone.
Survivors: Wife, Virginia Young; her children, son, Steven L Baum, daughter, Stacey L. Seiwert and daughter; daughters, Gerilyn Young Crull (Jim) and children, Debora Young Hamman and children; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and many friends.
