David Thomas Green

FORT WORTH-David Green, 67, passed away Feb. 1 following complications from surgery with his loving wife and son by his side.
Son of Tom Green and Ruth Barnhill Green, David was born in Londonderry, Northern Ireland. Soon after his birth, the family made their home in the Forest Hill neighborhood in Fort Worth. David attended O.D. Wyatt High School where he was a golf letterman and later Texas Christian University, where he received a Radio-TV-Film degree.
In 1986, David met Susan Shields and they were married in Fort Worth in 1990. Their son Tyler was born in 1996.
Having learned much of his trade from his father, Tom Green, David worked as an audio consultant, production assistant and contract engineer from 1971-1981 for various radio stations in the DFW area, including KXOL and WBAP-AM/KSCS-FM. In 1981, David joined TCU as the chief engineer for the on-campus radio station, KTCU 88.7 FM.
One of his greatest responsibilities and legacies was the design and installation of the KTCU radio studios when they were relocated. For 37 years David was responsible for the entire technical operation of the station and the college’s audio facilities. He also built out the new Amon G. Carter Stadium radio booth and served as the audio consultant to the TCU Sports Network for two decades. He retired from TCU in 2018.
David was passionate about music from an early age, starting out as an avid record collector and self-taught guitarist. While living in Austin, Texas, he began composing music. After his return to Fort Worth, he would team up with longtime friend Bill Carson to co-write songs that would later be performed by the duo and other band members known as The Procrastinators.
The Procrastinators recorded in David’s studio, Moonlight Recorders. The band performed in local venues, including the White Elephant Saloon, The Poop Deck, Billy Miner’s Saloon and The Oui Lounge. In 2007 they released their self-titled disc, The Procrastinators.
David had lifelong friends with whom he loved playing golf. He also enjoyed traveling and working on his bucket list. Among his “rules” for living is this reminder: “It’s never too early to start a bucket list; it’s never too late to check them off.”
David was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Charles Green.
Survivors: Wife of 30 years, Susan Green, Fort Worth; son Tyler Green of Austin; sister Dee Green of Venice, Calif.; niece Michelle Abitz of Bandera, Texas; and aunt Eva Smith and cousins of Orlando, Florida.
A service and celebration of life will be held Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Brown Owens & Brumley’s Joe B. Brown Memorial Chapel. Memorials may be given to the Tarrant Area Food Bank (tafb.org) or a charity of choice.
