FORT WORTH — Ruth C. Amend, beloved mother, grammie and grandma, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2015, at the age of 90.
Celebration of life: 10 a.m. Monday in Brown Owens & Brumley’s Joe B. Brown Memorial Chapel, Father Darryl Pigeon officiating.
Interment: Ruth will be laid to rest with her beloved husband, James Burnell Amend, in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation: 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Brown Owens & Brumley Family Funeral Home.
Ruth was born Nov. 9, 1924, to the late Hugh and Sarah Cameron in Homestead Park, Pa. She proudly served our country by enlisting in the U.S. Navy as a first-class hospital apprentice. She had a doctorate in higher education, with a minor in genetics, and taught biology for 40-plus years. Ruth was very active in the Daughters of the King (order of Episcopal Women), Daughters of the American Revolution, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, TCU Women’s Group, Carswell Retired Officers Wives Club and National Association of Parliamentarians. Ruth was a life member of the Fort Worth Retired School Employees Association. She received the highest honor that the Texas Retired Teachers Association can award, the E.L. Galyean Service Award, in 2010. Ruth will be deeply missed by us and will remain forever in our hearts.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Sarah Cameron; husband, James Burnell Amend; son, James Bruce Amend; and brothers, Charles Cameron and Hugh Cameron.
Survivors: Daughter, Nancy Prestridge and husband, John; son, Ronald Amend; grandchildren, Brian, Steven, Kevin, Tracie, Kerrie, Leslie and Michael; great-grandchildren, Jessica, Andrew, Caden, Kylee, Cassidy, Kaelee and Jaelyn; and many friends.
