Edith Frances Thatcher Cleere, 104, passed away peacefully at home on January 27, 2025, in Fort Worth, TX. Edith was born on September 02, 1920 in Stony, a small community near Ponder, TX in Denton Co., to Frank C Thatcher and Agnes Christal. Edith was one of eight children--three boys and five girls--the second oldest daughter. She attended and graduated from Ponder High School in 1938.
Sometime in the early 1940s Edith moved to Fort Worth and had a few jobs before she was employed by Convair Consolidated Aircraft Plant. Her father and brother, Billy later worked there. While employed at Convair, Faye a friend and co-worker said she should meet her uncle Bob. Thinking that he must be an older man, she was a bit reluctant to have an introduction. At a later date while attending a party at Faye’s house, Bob popped into the room and said hello to everyone. After seeing a young, good looking guy she changed her mind about meeting her friend’s uncle. Edith and Bob were married August 11, 1945 in Fort Worth, TX where she remained the rest of her life.
Edith worked at Safeway Grocery Stores as a cashier for 15 years, predominately in the 1950s. During the late 1960s-1970s she worked in the stock room at R. E. Cox & Co. In the late 1970s-1980s she worked for Tandy Corporation for approximately 10 years where she worked in electrical harness. Edith was a talented seamstress. For many years she made the majority of her clothes as well as Noreta’s & Nancy’s clothes. She also completed many lovely and complex cross-stitch projects and assorted crochet crafts over the years. Another of her favorite activities was working in her yard, tending to her many potted plants and flowers, mowing the grass or edging the yard. She thoroughly enjoyed visits with family and traveling around the country. Not only did she love to go to doll shows with her sister, Peggy and later also with daughter, Nancy but she developed a passion for collecting dolls. Many would say she over-indulged, especially once she got hooked on Barbies. She was known by many names—Mother, Mom, Grandma, and GG by both great-grandkids, and great-great-grandkids and will be missed by all.
Edith was preceded in death by husband Robert C. Cleere; son Bobbie Jack Cleere, daughter Noreta Weekley, daughter-in-law Jeane Cleere, granddaughter Daina Jordan, and all seven of her siblings, both older and younger. Survivors: daughter, Nancy Rodgers (Don); son, Les Cleere; grandchildren: Donnie Rodgers II, Darla McMillan, Devlyn Rodgers, Kailyn Cleere, Eric Preston Cleere, Kris Cleere, Kisha Chatterton, Melanie Cleere, Camila Van Dyke, Ronda Raley, & Joe McDaniel; 21 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at VFW #5617, 580 S Cherry Lane, White Settlement, TX 76108, at 3:00 p.m. Anyone wishing to tell a memory of Edith is welcome to contribute verbally or in a written note.
