Florus Dianne Chandler Colburn, 78, December 23, 1943, May 19, 2022, Fort Worth, Texas—Dianne passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 19 in Fort Worth. A Memorial Service will be held at Brown, Owens and Brumley Funeral Home on Saturday, June 18 at 1:00 p.m.
Dianne was born in Waco, TX on December 23, 1943. She was the eldest child of Ray and Florus Chandler and started her teaching career early by playing school with her siblings. Her brother Roy credits her with making him a better student. She was an accomplished seamstress, even making her own patterns when necessary. She expanded into crochet, needlework and quilting, and generously shared her work with family and friends. She enjoyed planning and hosting family events, and her home was always open to all. Dianne was a master of organization. In the early 1970s she turned a closet full of photos stored in shoeboxes into a collection of albums for the whole family to enjoy, complete with annotation of names, dates, locations and events based on her mother’s encyclopedic memory. She had a keen interest in family history picked up from her Aunt Marie. On a 1999 trip to Maryville, TN to see the old house built by her third great grandfather Richard Chandler in the early 1800s, she rescued and purchased a fireplace mantle before the old homestead was demolished. She brought the mantle home and proudly incorporated it into her Fort Worth house. She loved to travel—two of her favorite places to frequent were Eureka Springs, AR and Sanibel Island, FL. She collected seashells on every visit to Sanibel and filled her home and those of family and friends with her seashell creations.
A graduate of Everman High School and The University of North Texas, she was a teacher with the Fort Worth ISD for over 30 years. She taught 4th grade at Glencrest, Bluebonnet, BH Carroll and Tanglewood Elementary.
Dianne was preceded in death by her husband Floyd Colburn, step-daughter Theresa McKee and Theresa’s son Jesse Wright. She is survived by brothers Ray (Carrie) Chandler of Fort Worth, Roy (Pat) Chandler of Albuquerque, NM, sister Cathie Read of Burleson, step-daughter Patti Davis and her extended family, Mark and Josh Riley and many nieces and nephews.
