Gene Schay passed away at age 81 on June 7, 2021. Gene was born on April 2, 1940 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Eugene and Katie Schay. At age 17, Gene served in the National Guard and was assigned to protect the Little Rock Nine entering Central High School during the start of desegregation. This service led to a deep respect for the military and for equality among all races. Gene received his accounting degree from University of Arkansas and worked as a CPA and businessman.
Gene or “Geno” as he was nicknamed, was known for his sharp mind, great singing voice, quick wit and memorization of Shakespeare, Aristotle and other prolific writers. The songs he sang were mainly from Frank Sinatra, and his most notable rendition was “New York New York. “He enjoyed the ocean and loved traveling, taking several trips and cruises abroad. He was an avid reader and took great interest in news and politics.
Gene has three daughters- Tracy Schay Curry(Craig) , Ashley Schay Gormley(Ben),
and Kelly Schay Heiser. Gene’s daughters have all boys: Wes and Austin Curry, Brandon, Brody and Benjamin Gormley and Luke Heiser. Gene also has one great -grandson Silas Curry.
Gene is survived by his lovely wife Maria Teresa Ulloa and her daughters Ximena Ferreyros- Guerra(Georges) and Juliana Ferreyros ( Stuart Swift) . Their children are: Mattias and Isabella Guerra, Juan Manuel, Martin and Paulina Archila.
A service to celebrate Gene’s life will be held July 10th at 11am at Celebration Community Church 908 Pennsylvania Avenue in Fort Worth, Texas. 76104. The family welcomes your presence and prayers. The family also wanted to include information on a charitable organization for those feeling led to donate in honor of Gene- The Dementia Society of America.
