Goldie Marie Struve Goodspeed

FORT WORTH-Goldie Marie Struve Goodspeed passed away due to kidney disease on Monday, June 24, 2019 with her family by her side.
Celebration of life: The family and close friends will commemorate Goldie’s life with a celebration of life at her home. No services to be held. If you wish to do something in Goldie’s honor, please adopt and care well for a pet in need or donate to your favorite local pet or wildlife rescue group.
Goldie was born to parents, Goldie Marie Edens Struve and Clemens Amand Struve of Fort Worth, Texas on November 12 in the mid-1940s. Goldie grew up in the 1950’s in Fort Worth with both parents at home. She often said she had the perfect childhood. As a child, she was a tomboy with dreams of being a cowboy (not a cowgirl) like Roy Rogers. One of her favorite childhood memories was beating up the boys who made fun of her and her best friend, Tommie for their unusual first names. As an adult, Goldie’s outgoing and friendly nature gave those she met a great sense of ease. Many people gravitated to her and often shared their life’s story, which she genuinely loved to hear. She had a great curiosity about life and others. Children were drawn to Goldie too, which she joked about often. If there was a child in the room, it was just a matter of minutes before she would make a new little friend.
Goldie loved being outside and enjoying nature. She spent many happy days of her retirement sitting on her back porch watching the critters play in her big tree where she fed them. Goldie was a friend to all living things. Even the smallest bug was safe in her midst. All her pets throughout her life were rescues and lucky to be in her care.
Goldie was a beautiful person inside and out and lived a “wonderful, blessed life” as she would say. Throughout her life, she always found a reason to be happy, never feeling down for long. She had a great sense of humor about herself and life in general. Those who knew her well would agree that having a good laugh with Goldie made your day.
Goldie’s favorite things were: flower-gardenia, dessert-apple pie, color-red, song-Loving You by Elvis Presley, holiday song-Little Drummer Boy, holiday-Thanksgiving, passage-I Don’t Regret A Mile by Howard Goodman, quote-Keep On Keeping On, and pastime-reading. Her perfect day was sitting in the backyard on a warm day with a glass of ice tea, reading a good book and listening to the birds sing. When we have the joy of experiencing these things in our life, we will think of her with a smile and remember better times.
Goldie graduated high school, married, had children, worked and retired, but what she really did was pass on the best parts of her to those she left behind. Today we, her family, share them with you. In her honor, we will find a reason to laugh every day and will be kind to people, nature and the animals in which we share this earth. We hope you will too.
Goldie is preceded in death by her first husband and father to her children Tracy Lilly as well as her best friend, Tommie Johnson, her parents and her sister, Ruth.
Survivors: Daughter, Julia Lilly and husband, Jason Harskjold of Arlington, Texas; daughter, Lisa Lilly and Kenneth Whitley of Mineral Wells, Texas; grandsons, Tracy Hazelton of Arlington, Texas and Casey Hazelton and wife, Lauren Nickle of Austin, Texas; sister, Jeanne Struve of Dennis, Texas; niece, Cindy Williams and husband, Andy Williams of Springtown, Texas; great-nephew, Brantley Cook of Aledo, Texas; as well as many friends and extended family members; she also left behind her beloved pets, Gabby, Lucy, and Phoebe.
