James was born March 13, 1953 to the late Oran Lee Kay and Florene Kay (McClung) in Mount Pleasant, Texas. James proudly served his country by enlisting in the US Army. When he was younger, he always looked forward to the weekend and would get ready to go out on the town all dressed up in his western shirt and starched jeans. He also never met a stranger and would just walk up to anyone and start a conversation. He rode his bike everywhere he went.
James was a jokester too. As his great nephew or great niece were going up the stairs, he would call them back as if to do something for him. But he would say “how far would you have gotten if I had not called you back?”
He loved painting and decorating bird houses. He even painted some furniture for a great niece. James was a loving brother, uncle and friend to many and will be missed.
James is preceded in death by his parents; brother in law, James Travis Martin.
Survivors: Sister, Linda Lee (Kay)Martin; niece, Cristy Brand and spouse, Barry; great niece, Brook Brand; great nephew, Austin Brand; nephew, Chris Martin and spouse, Kristen; great nephew, Travis Martin; great nephew, Preston Martin; and numerous friends.
