Jerry grew up in Fort Worth, Texas where his love of baseball and football began. Soon he was a father of 3 and met and married Rhonda, to whom he was married to for 42 years. Together they raised their 5 children and spent many years going to the races and fishing, along with countless poker nights and road trips with the family. Jerry began his career at the City of Irving as a Trashman where he worked for 27 years and finished his career as the Superintendent upon his retirement. The kids couldn’t wait for him to get home from work to see what “treasures” he would find that day. As he got older, being a pawpaw was his greatest joy in life. From school sporting events to graduations, he was there for it all. The love he had for his children and grandchildren was so great. As much as he will be missed, we will always feel his love and presence.
His personal hobbies included fishing, softball, and most of all bowling where he spent countless hours trying to “perfect his game” alongside of Billy Donahou and Johnny Jarrett.
The Lord was speaking to him over the last few years and he rededicated his life to Jesus Christ by being baptized in Destin, Florida on July 10th, 2021 alongside his children. Jerry felt free, and we know he is now at peace.
Jerry is proceeded in death by his parents Jack and Mildred Long, his sister, Brenda Long and son Gary Long. He is survived by his Brother Jackie Long, sister Linda Prichard, his ex-wife Rhonda Johnson, his children, Amee and husband Jason Bradford, Dana Frenzel, Bryan and wife Brande Long and Charles Billy. His grandchildren Nolan and Dawson Bradford, Morgan and Haston Abbott, Kamryn Frenzel, Kendra and Justin Billy, and Kristen, Keith and Carley Long along with many great grandchildren. Jerry also leaves behind two life long friends of 70+ years, Terry “Mac” Beene and Ruben Reyes whom he grew up with and still kept in close contact with over the years.
Jerry left an impact on everyone he met and will be greatly missed. “Go fly high on that mountain.”
