Jimmy Ross Smith

CHICAGO, ILL. — Jim Smith went to his heavenly home on Friday, Nov. 13, 2015, to celebrate his birthday with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Celebration of life: 11 a.m. Friday at Brown Owens & Brumley’s Joe B. Brown Memorial Chapel, Pastors Tonnie May and Dan Caldwell officiating. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Jim was born Nov. 13, 1962, in Galveston. Jim had so many friends on this earth because of his most kind and caring nature. Jim was a wonderful and caring son and will truly be missed by his mom and dad and his hundreds of friends.
Jim graduated from Western Hills in 1981 where he was a member of the cheerleading squad and the drum and bugle corps. Jim attended UTA, then moved to New York City where he worked with Mark Finkelstein who became a beloved friend as well as a mentor. He also worked with various music companies and artists to produce music and video recordings for distribution and sale on iTunes. Jim was also a professional photographer and made photographs of various merchandise for publication and sale in periodicals. Jim was a talented writer and published a weekly paper. He recently moved to Chicago from New York and was employed by the Sam Villa Company. He was loved by many friends and staff and will be missed. He was traveling back to New York to celebrate his birthday when involved in a vehicle accident that took his life. Jim was a remarkable and loving man who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Jim was preceded in death by brothers, Jobie R. Smith Jr. and Kevin Gardner.
Survivors: Father, Jobie Smith and wife, Karen; mother, Charlene “Dodie” Dugan; sister, Kendra Hopkins and husband, Eric; uncle, Joey Larkin and Auntie Ann; a large family of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends in Texas, Louisiana, Georgia, New Jersey and Ohio whom he loved dearly; and his faithful companion, Peto.
