HASLET — Joann Marie Martin (nee Clark), born in Chicago, IL December 26th 1943, began her journey into Eternal Life Friday, January 29, 2016 with her husband at her side.
Granted the grace of God by the Roman Catholic Church through Baptism Joann received and celebrated the sacraments of Penance, Holy Communion, Confirmation and Matrimony. Through the kindhearted intercession of her friends Maxine & Jerry Lange, and the kindness of Father Michael Greco of St. Patrick’s Cathedral (Fort Worth,TX) she received the Anointing of the Sick, The Last Rights of the Church, including Absolution and Viaticum.
Joann approached the end of her mortal existence as she lived her life-unbowed, unafraid and unflinching. She was filled with the pride and joy of family, particularly her daughters, Erin Eileen Stone (Annapolis, MD), Meg Marie O’Grady (Pohick Bay, VA), Molly Kathleen Martin (Fort Worth, TX), Moira Kate Martin (Fort Worth, TX), Morgan McKenna Martin (deceased) and Rory Mavourneen Brosius (Pohick Bay, VA). Her last days were buoyed by the presence of her daughters and grandchildren; Neylon O’Grady, Noah Sambrosky, Jasmine Rhineberger, Son in Law Matthew Brosius , Molly’s fiancée Chris Miller and her friends Maxine and Jerry Lange.
Survived and mourned by her husband of fifty years, Robert Martin (Haslet, TX), her beloved sister, Kathleen Flory-Smith (Hobart, IN), brother, Steven Clark (E. Lansing, MI), brother, Daniel Clark (Jacksonville, FL), sister-in-law, Karen Maslan (Lemont, IL), dear friends, Julie Peters (Oswego, IL), Pat Frederick (Lockport, IL), LeeAnn Knapp (Bethesda, MD) , Faith Smith (Midlothian, VA), Robin Gray (Richmond, VA), Dawn Campbell Stokes (Midlothian, VA), Vicki Davis (Richmond, VA), Maxine & Jerry Lange (Keller, TX ) and her extended family of six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, cousins, Joan Hickey (Joliet, IL), Martin Flannigan (Cork, Ireland) and numerous other cousins, nieces and nephews.
Passing before her were Morgan McKenna Martin (daughter), Mary T. Clark (mother), Jack Aiken Clark (father), John Clark (brother) and Aunt Catherine Ryan.
Compassionate and caring until the end, she directed her own final care. She desired cremation without ceremony, with inurnment at Resurrection Cemetery, Romeoville, IL. Remembrance gatherings will be held in her memory at later dates. Joann’s spirit will live on through the lives of those remaining behind. This will be a sadly evocative St. Valentine’s Day for her husband, without a favorite film “Moonstruck”, but Joann would echo Loretta Castorini, “Get over it!”
We extend grateful appreciation to the Staff at Community Hospice of Texas. In lieu of flowers, please remember and celebrate Joann’s life with gifts in her name to the Disabled American Veterans an organization that she admired and supported.
