FORT WORTH-John Peter Nichols Jr. passed away Friday, November 18, 2022 at the age of 77.
INTERMENT: John will be laid to rest with a military burial at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211 on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at 1 p.m.

John was born Thursday, January 25, 1945 to the late John Peter Nichols, Sr. and Stella Ann (Rozycki) Nichols in Great Bend, Kansas. Before attending college, John boarded from 9th through 12th grade at and then graduated from The Peddie School, Hightstown, NJ. He held a BA in Political Science from Columbia University, New York, NY. He also held an MA in Public Administration from The University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, ND.
John was an award winning, versatile professional with over 30 years of first hand management experience in all aspects of integrated marketing and communications. He was widely respected for his strong organizational, leadership, communication and team building skills. He was an accomplished trainer, mentor and motivator.
John created and headed The Nichols Group BSC, a privately held, independent marketing consultancy providing experienced, senior level counsel in branding, strategy and communications to establish corporations, dynamic emerging businesses and agencies seeking to gain competitive advantage through the use of integrated marketing.
Prior to forming The Nichols Group, he was SVP, Group Director of Account Services and a member of the Agency Operating Committee at Bozell Temerlin McClain in Dallas. There he oversaw a $200+million portfolio of accounts including NationsBank (now Bank of America), JCPenney and GTE/Verizon, in addition to being General Manager of Temerlin McClain Direct.
Over the course of his career, Nichols, had consumer and tactical experience on such products as Blue Coral, Dial, Nestle, Pfiser, Ivory Bar Soap, Quaker State, Warner Lambert, Hallmark, Beneficial, Nations Bank, Visa, Citibank, AT&T, DeBeers and Symantec.
Agencies and corporations he worked for included Compton, Proctor and Gamble, NW Ayer, Beneficial, Symantec, Rare Medium, Counterpane, Bozell Temerlin McClain, Bell Helicopter, QLM Associates and Frankel & Company.
He was recognized with a charter listing in Who’s Who in Advertising. He was the winner of 8 Gold EFFIE awards and 3 Silver EFFIE awards for marketing performance and creative excellence in addition to being a two time EFFIE Award Judge.
Nichols was a former U.S. Air force B-52 pilot and a decorated combat veteran.
John loved playing and watching football, golf, flying airplanes, sports cars, reading, writing, history, politics and mostly his children and their interests. He tended and saw after his mother for the last 18 years of her life until she passed away in 2008 at the age of 103.
SURVIVORS: Loving wife of 48 years, Cinda Lu Thurston-Ratzlaff Nichols; daughter, Laura JoAnne Nichols; son, Stephen Barrett Nichols; and numerous friends.
