FORT WORTH-Joseph Malcolm Martin, 85, passed away on February 14, 2020 surrounded by his family. Graveside service: will be held Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at 10:15am at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas. Visitation: The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, February 18, 2020 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the Brown Owens & Brumley Family Funeral Home in Fort Worth, Texas. Born in Laurel, Mississippi and raised in Washington State, Joe was the son of Matthew and Mary Martin.
Joe began his military service at a young age and served over 25 years in the Navy and Army. He enjoyed being in the military and felt that his fellow soldiers were family. After a tour of duty in Korea, he did three tours in Vietnam, earning two Purple Hearts. Then, in the mid 1970’s while Joe was stationed in Seoul, Korea, he met a military clerk named Yong Nan Han. Joe and Yong dated and married in June of 1976. Upon retiring from the Army as a first master sergeant, Joe worked in the heating and air conditioning industry, and then worked for and retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 2000. After retirement, Joe went on to complete his Bachelor’s degree at Texas Wesleyan University.
Survivors: Joe is survived by his daughter, Susan Town, her husband Andrew, and granddaughter Avery, as well as his nephew, John Martin and his wife Cheryl and their children Joel, Clint, and Jaclyn. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother, William Martin, and sister, Jerry Peffly.
