FORT WORTH-Juan J. Torres passed away Thursday, December 9, 2021 at the age of 78.
CELEBRATION OF LIFE: 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at Brown Owens & Brumley’s Joe B. Brown Memorial Chapel.
VISITATION: 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at the funeral home.
INTERMENT: Juan will be laid to rest at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery.
Juan was born to the late Fernando Guzman Torres and Victoria Martinez on Monday, December 21, 1942 in Mercedes, Texas. Juan proudly served his country by enlisting in the US Army and retired after 22 dedicated years. Juan received a Purple Heart Medal during his tour in the Vietnam war. He also received a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Army Commendation Medal and Meritorious Service Medal. After retiring from the US Army, Juan enjoyed a 26 year career at United States Postal Service. In all, he spent 48 dedicated years working for the United States Government. His hobbies and interests were fishing, antique cars, and collecting lighters and watches. He loved traveling to Brussels, Belgium, Washington, D.C., Las Vegas and really enjoyed taking leisurely cruises. He also loved going out on Sunday mornings for breakfast. Juan was a volunteer of the year recipient for Cornerstone Assistance Network and was a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart since 1993.
Juan is preceded in death by his parents; loving wife of 38 years, Jacqueline Torres; and step son, Michael Wood.
SURVIVORS: His only daughter, Soraya Torres Caulkins and husband, Daniel; ex-wife, Renate Torres; step children, Anita Wood and Andreas Wood; son, Johnny Torres; his special service dog, Nacho Torres and many friends.
