IRVING-Kelly Jo Blas, 58, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2018 surrounded by her family whom she loved and lived for.
Celebration of life: 2 p.m. Monday, June 25, 2018 at Brown Owens & Brumley Joe B. Brown Memorial Chapel.
Kelly was born in Des Moines, Iowa to Judy A. Grooms and Michael Grooms on December 29, 1959.
Kelly graduated from Irving Beauty Academy in July 1983 and received her cosmetology license as a nail technician. She convinced her mother to get her manicurist license and then they opened the Nail Studio in Irving. By 1991, the business was very successful and they became the sponsors of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. Kelly’s artistic interest blossomed into a highly marketable talent. In 1988 she was nominated as Woman Entrepreneur of the Year and was voted number one manicurist in Irving. Kelly went on to win many nail awards throughout her career, including 1st place in the 1989 Hawaii Intercontinental Competition. She was not only a manicurist for 35 years, but she was a great friend to all of her clients. She continued to work after her cancer diagnosis, because she loved what she did and cared so much for her clients. When she came to the realization that she would have to retire and focus on taking care of health, she was heartbroken.
She loved to bake with her granddaughters, take day trips to WinStar World Casino with her mother, go on vacation with her son and his family and celebrate her favorite holidays which were Christmas, July 4th and Easter.
Kelly is preceded in death by her father, Michael Grooms after his long battle with cancer.
Survivors: Left to cherish her memory is her only son, Christopher J. Blas and wife, Jessica, of Euless; granddaughters, Bailey and Kylie Blas; mother, Judy and stepfather, Michael Kandrac of Grand Prairie; sister, Tracy Grooms and her four children, Jonathon, Joe, Lacey and Josh; and numerous extended family members and friends.
Kelly was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend to all knew her and will remain in their hearts and minds forever. She was the most loving, patient person that walked this earth and God must have wanted her to walk by his side sooner than we would have liked. She was a true Angel on earth. She valued her time with her family before she passed, because spending time with her loved ones was her number one priority. Till we meet again….
