Kenneth Willard “Bill” Varner Jr.

FORT WORTH — Kenneth Willard “Bill” Varner Jr. passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at the age of 82.
Graveside service: 1 p.m. Saturday in Oakwood Cemetery, Corsicana.

Bill was born July 4, 1933 in Houston to Kenneth W. Varner and Anna Jane Benoist Varner Hester. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. Bill married Barbara Ruth Champion in May 1958 and they were pictured on the June 1st Parade of the Houston Chronicle Sunday paper. He graduated from John H. Reagan High School and the University of Houston in 1959 with a degree in Mathematics and went to work in the budding computer world. He was later employed by the U.S. Government, Department of Army as an Ammunition Inspector/Quality Control Specialist until his retirement in 1989. Bill and Barbara lived in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Germany, Alabama, Virginia, Texas, and he was in Korea for a year. Since his retirement, he taught computers at San Jacinto Community College for a short time and has written several novels, “Land of the Morning Calm”, “Time and Time Again”, “Any Time Any When”, “Thor’s Hammer” and “Stinger”. He was also a family genealogist and Mr. Fix-it for all home projects.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Houston Varner.
Survivors: Wife, Barbara Varner; son, Christopher C. Varner and wife, Irma; son, Andrew B. Varner and wife, Deana; four grandchildren, Ryan, Arwen, Willow and Travis.
