Lewis joined the Merchant Marines at age 16 during WWII which began his traveling adventures. After his service to his country ended, he attended Wheaton College, Missionary Baptist Seminary and Jacksonville Baptist College. He was ordained to the ministry in 1948 and was instrumental in starting several missions in the Fort Worth area which were organized into churches. He also worked at General Dynamics and Lockheed Martin until 1989. In 1990-1991 he served as a licensed radio operator for ships contracted by the government to carry supplies to the troops in the Persian Gulf (Kuwait) which took him around the world several times. Upon his return to the U. S.A., he volunteered his services as the radio operator aboard the Mercy ships out of Norfolk, VA. This is a humanitarian organization which builds schools, hospitals and churches in third world countries. On one of his trips to Nicaragua he met Gloria Sambola to whom he was married in 1999. While living in Nicaragua, he built a radio station (VECA) in Nicaragua which broadcasts religious programs 24/7 to a large portion of that country and is still in existence today. When his death was announced on the station, the churches rang the bells in his honor to announce his death to the villagers.
For the past ten years he and Gloria have attended People’s Baptist Church, a ministry for the homeless and those with addictions which is pastored by Johnnie Ramsey. His daughter, Cynthia, serves as a worship leader and works in the music ministry at the church.
He lived a very full life and his selfless acts have enriched the lives of many throughout the world. His youngest son, Ronnie, travels throughout the world as a humanitarian photographer for international orphan organizations in addition to his other leadership activities at Birchman Baptist Church.
His favorite saying was “I have everything I want and don’t need anything that I have”. For those who knew him, he had no earthly goods as all his treasures were waiting for him in heaven.
Upon his entry to Heaven he was greeted by family members who had preceded him in death: Mary, his wife of 42 years, his second son, Noel Mark, his parents, and his granddaughter, Christina Mosley.
Survivors: Children and their families, two daughters, Cynthia Ware and Linda Dunn (Bill), three sons, Lewis Richard Mosley Jr., Darrel Mosley (Cynthia), and Ronnie Mosley (Carol), a sister, Zella Mae Jones (age 93), 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
