Lydia Hernandez

FORT WORTH-Lydia Hernandez known to her family as Aunt Lilly has joined her father Jose M. Hernandez and her mother Reyes Navarro Hernandez in heaven on Monday, May 18, 2020.
Memorial service: To be held at a later date.
Lydia, a brilliant and adventurous woman, had a fierce sense of independence and enjoyed traveling the world. She was successful
as a civil servant, during a time when women had to fight for their careers and independence. She taught us to stand for what we believe in, to take No Guff from anybody and to be ready to lean in before it was popular. We are proud of her determination and tenacious ability to do things her way and in her own terms.
Lydia was born December 20, 1931 in El Paso, Texas and grew up in the Valverde neighborhood. She attended Burleson Elementary and graduated from Technical Institute in 1948. After graduation she worked for the City of El Paso with Raymond Telles, who became the first Latino Mayor of a major city in the United States. She moved to Fort Worth in the late 1950s to seek her education and career. She volunteered to be an ombudsman to protect senior citizens and advocate for their care. She retired from the Federal Government and resided in Fort Worth until her recent passing. The family wants to thank all who helped her in her hours of need. With great sadness, but with much love we say, until we meet again to our Aunt Lilly.
She was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers: Herminia H. Brooks, Edwardo Hernandez, Elvira Hernandez, Isabel H. Villa and Manuel Hernandez.
