Micah Elias (Eli) Mitchell passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at his home in Fort Worth. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 3, at 10AM at Arlington Heights United Methodist Church.
Eli was born April 3, 2006, in Fort Worth, TX, to Micah and Maggie Mitchell. Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Micah and Maggie, siblings Mollie, Max and Elizabeth, grandparents Marlene Pfeifle (Houston, TX), and Jon and Ann Mitchell (Tyler, TX) and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his grandfather Michael Martin Pfeifle.
Eli attended Paschal High School as a junior, where he was an honor student and a member of the football team and National Honor Society. He loved sports analytics, the Pittsburgh Steelers, TCU football, the Memphis Grizzlies, fishing, attending Sky Ranch Camp and collecting football cards. He was a gifted statistician and was well known and loved for his consistent hard work and dedication to his team and academics.
Eli loved sports, especially football and basketball. He traveled to the NFL combine to watch his favorite college athletes. Eli watched all televised rounds of the NFL draft. He would make his predictions on who would be drafted to which team. Eli loved following his favorite TCU athletes on their journey from college to professional athletes. Even though he was a die hard Steelers fan, he would buy jerseys from other NFL teams with the names of his favorite TCU stars. Eli loved the Memphis Grizzlies player and TCU star Desmond Bane. He wore his Grizzlies Bane jersey to every TCU basketball game. Eli was also a Nike shoe collector and has left quite a collection of shoes for his brother to wear in his memory.
Eli was a jokester. He loved dressing up in silly costumes to keep the mood light while attending school and camp functions. Some of his most memorable costumes are his Elmo onesie, Frosty the Snowman, and the Red Teletubby.
Eli was baptized at AHUMC on August 20, 2006. He was confirmed there on January 23, 2022. He provided valuable assistance as a technical volunteer with the online worship broadcast.
In death, Eli was able to help a blind man see and heal the sick through cornea and tissue donation.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to The Heart of Eli Memorial Fund. In hopes that Eli’s work ethic and infallible attitude will inspire players for years to come, donations will be used to fund a scholarship for scholar-athletes of Paschal High School’s football team. Donations can be sent through Venmo @heartofelimemorialfund or by check. Please make checks payable to: The Heart of Eli Memorial Scholarship, 2017 Windsor Pl, Fort Worth, TX 76110. The family asks that as part of the celebration of life ceremony, attendees wear colors that make you happy or represent your favorite sports teams. Eli’s favorite color was purple.
