Michael “Mike” Dean Voxland, father, grandfather, and friend passed away in the early morning on January 3, 2024. He is survived by his siblings, Gregg Voxland and Linda Berndt; his two sons and their spouses, James and Lindsay Voxland, and Michael and Brittany Voxland; four grandchildren, Alyssa, Josh, Anders, and Alec Voxland; and his friend Detta Zomnir. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mei Jung Voxland in 1999.
Mike was born in Faribault, Minnesota to Leonard and Christella Voxland on August 12, 1942. He received his degree from St. Olaf College in Chemistry and Economics in 1964 and later, a Master’s Degree in Education. After working for a short time at Green Giant, he entered the United States Air Force, receiving his commission on September 30, 1964. Upon completion of training in Communications and Electronics at Keesler AFB, MS, he was assigned to Ellsworth, AFB, SD. Following that successful assignment, Mike was assigned to Taiwan AB, Taiwan as the Squadron Commander, where he met his future wife, Mei Jung “Jackie” Kuo.
After spending 10 years overseas in places such as Japan and Aviano AB, Italy, Mike returned home to the states, to Richards-Gebaur Air Force Station, MO, where his first son, James Michael was born in 1977, and traveled worldwide on the Command Inspector General Team. He was next assigned to the CINCPAC Staff at Hickam AFB, HI, where his second son, Michael Thomas was born in 1979. His last assignment was at Carswell AFB in Fort Worth, TX where he was honorably discharged from active duty on July 31, 1985.
Following retirement from the Air Force, he worked many years in Defense for several companies in the Dallas-Fort Worth area before retiring in his 70s. He also had a passion for soccer, and served as a soccer referee, officiating club and high school soccer games for over 24 years. Mike was an avid sports enthusiast and coached and managed many of his sons’ sports teams. He was also a devoted Vikings and Cowboys fan and was lucky enough to see his beloved Texas Rangers finally win the World Series!
Mike was loved by all his family and friends and will be dearly missed. A memorial service and interment will take place at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211 at 10:00am, January 19, 2024.
