Nathan Mack Brown

KATY — Nathan Mack Brown passed away Tuesday April 19, 2016 in Katy, Texas at the age of 78.
Celebration of life: 10 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Tx. 77079 (281)497-2210
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Interment: Mack will be laid to rest in Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
Nathan Mack Brown was born August 3, 1937 in Mineral Wells, Tx. to the late Jessie and Nathan Monroe Brown. Mack attended Mineral Wells High School where he enjoyed football and basketball. This is also where he met his high school sweetheart, Merla L. Clark. They were married on June 30, 1956. Mack and Merla would have been married for 60 years this year.
Mack worked at Can/Tex in Mineral Wells before they moved to Houston. He then worked at Municipal Pipe and after he worked there a few years he started N.M. Brown Construction with Merla. Soon he joined forces with Carl Harris and they formed Brown/Harris Construction. This is when his son, Terry started to work with his dad. In 1988, a new venture began when Sajo Construction was founded. Being that golf was one of his favorite past times, it was hardly any work for Mack at all. Along with golf, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, cruising, and yes, of course, gambling. As many of you know this is where the famous “99” came from, the dealer busts! It was heart around the casino when Mack was playing with his buddies. He would even get everyone at the table including the dealer to saying it.
Mack was a very generous man. He gave his time to several charitable organizations and memberships. He is a past president with the 100 Club, a past president of the Houston Contractors Associates, a Lifetime Director for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and a past chairman of the Lamb Committee, which is now called the Lamb and Goat Committee. This was one of Mack and Merla’s favorite things to do, helping the kids with their scholarships at the auctions.
May our loving husband, father, pop, papa and friend rest in peace. We all love you and will miss you dearly.
Mack is preceded in death by his mother and father, Jessie and Nathan Brown; his sister, Peggy Brown; and his brother and sister-in-law, Joe B. Brown and Alma L. Brown.
Survivors: Mack leaves behind his loving wife of 59 years, Merla Brown; son, Terry Mack Brown and wife, Renee; daughter, Mickie Cioccia and husband, John; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many many friends.
