FORT WORTH — Retired Air Force Maj. Alberto Alvarez passed away Monday, July 22, 2013, at the age of 72.
Service: Services will be held at a later date at Fort Logan, Colo., and Fort Worth.
Alberto was born Aug. 9, 1940, in Gilcrest, Colo., to the late Lorenzo and Juanita Alvarez. Alberto served 21 years as a radar navigator on a B-52 bomber and was deployed during the Vietnam War numerous times, during which he flew over 300 successful missions. He married the love of his life, Diamantina, on Dec. 14, 1968, in Platteville, Colo. Alberto was a devoted Catholic who attended Holy Family Catholic Church. He also retired after 22 years as a technical publications editor for Lockheed Martin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Rebecca Baeza.
Survivors: Wife, Diamantina Alvarez; daughter, Julie Alvarez; grandson, Noah Alvarez; brothers, Lawrence Alvarez and wife, Toyoko, Tomas Alvarez and wife, Virginia, Manuel Alvarez and Felix Alvarez and wife, Margie; sisters, Severance Alvarez, Isabel Bara, Rosie Barrera, Juanita Garcia and husband, Santos, and Esther Veronica French and husband, Richard.
