Grapevine-Stephen Scott Ferebee, III, was born May 14, 1951, in Charlotte, North Carolina, the son of Elizabeth Cooper Ferebee and S. Scott Ferebee, Jr. He attended South Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, and had many fond memories of playing in a local band, “The Noblemen.” He graduated from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC, in 1975 with a B.S. in Economics, and was a proud member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity there. Scott worked with GTE Southeast, and subsequently with Verizon after their merger, until he retired permanently in 2013 with End Stage Renal Disease. In 1989, Scott and his family moved from North Carolina to Texas to accommodate a job transfer, and they resided in Grapevine, Texas. Scott passed away peacefully with family at his side on February 11, 2021, at Community Healthcare of Texas Hospice in Fort Worth, Texas, after a long battle with multiple health issues.
Scott is survived by his wife, Lynn Mayes Ferebee of the home; his son, S. Scott Ferebee, IV, of Fort Worth, TX; his son, James Cooper Ferebee and fiancée, Becky Stringer, of Bedford, TX; his sister and her husband, Caroline Ferebee Simmons and Jerry Felton Simmons, of Lake Wylie, SC; and a niece and nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; a brother, John Cooper Ferebee; and an infant sister, Faye Shoun Ferebee.
Memorial service plans are pending and will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family humbly suggests that friends and loved ones take the time to offer a helping hand to someone in Scott’s memory. Scott was always ready to help neighbors, friends, and family in any way he could. He was one of those rare individuals who could fix nearly anything and enjoyed doing it. For those wishing to donate in his memory, he donated to the National Kidney Foundation himself, but any charitable donation to his memory is appreciated.
