Thomas "Tom" Abner Walker

October 17, 1943 — August 29, 2024

Thomas ("Tom") Abner Walker was born on 17 October 1943 in Meridian, Texas to George C Walker and Bennie Melrose Hodges Walker. He married Sandra LaRue of Cedar Hill, Texas on 19 April 1963. Three children were born from this union. Tom died on 29 August 2024 with congestive heart failure.

Tom led a very full life that started with him driving a tractor at just 3-years-old. He worked with his father on the farm until he was grown. He was very active in all sports and received a full three-year scholarship to the University of Houston. Shortly after he moved to college, his father died and Tom returned to the farm to take care of it and his mother. Tom worked hard all his life. He lived by the motto: "If you're going to do something, do it right." Tom later drove trucks, worked at an electrical plant, two coal powered electrical plants, did logistics and inventory control and ended up running his own successful small engine repair and landscaping business.

Tom was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on 18 June 1971 devoting his time and energy to his ministry and obeying Jehovah's command to teach and make disciples. His faith was in Jehovah's promise to restore the earth to a paradise setting and resurrect the ones who have died to life on that paradise earth. He and Sandra raised all three of their children on these teachings and they are all also baptized as Jehovah's Witnesses.

Tom was a good man. He never met a stranger and he entertained everyone with his good nature and jovial personality. He had some very interesting stories from when he was growing up. He was an avid outdoorsman, always telling tall tales from when he went out with his boys camping and hunting and fishing. He was always telling jokes, even entertaining the ICU nurses hours before his death. He led a very full life. Tom died peacefully surrounded by his family. He will be laid to rest in Lanham, Texas, alongside his parents and some of his siblings, with a private family burial.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, George C & Bennie Walker; four brothers, George Jr, Roy, Jerry, and Benny; two sisters, Mary Lou and Barbara; and a grandson, Garrett Canterbury.

Tom is survived by his wife of 61-years, Sandra; his children and their spouses, Traci and Robert Cameron, Troy & Rhonda Walker, and Jennifer & Alex Chilson; fifteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers-in law; numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank the excellent care our Dad received at Medical City Azle, Dr. Mehdi Khalafi, Dr. (Shadow) Haci, Medical City Fort Worth, Tower A, Fourth Floor Nursing Staff, Tower B, ICU nurses, and Three Oaks Hospice. These providers were the best we have ever worked with. They were patient with us and answered our questions tirelessly. We cannot thank them enough.
