Willie Lee Rodgers
December 25, 1932- June 14, 2022
Arlington, Texas- Will Rodgers, age 89, passed away Tuesday June 14, 2022 at his daughter’s home in Arlington, Texas. Will was born Christmas Day 1932 to Joseph Benson Rodgers and Mary Harris Rodgers in Dallas, Texas. He is preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Nelda Avant Rodgers and their infant daughter, Vicki Rodgers. He is survived by son, Daniel Rodgers, daughter, Pamela Elliott (Tobey). Grandchildren: Joshua Rodgers, Brandon (Ashley) Rodgers, Tia Rodgers, Jake (Mariah) Rodgers, Ashley Elliott-Luz (Zachary) and Haley Elliott, several great-grands with the youngest “his buddy” Sofia Luz. He has a sister that survives him as well, Betty Flood.
Will grew up in Dallas. He and Nelda married in September 1951. They moved to Garland, Texas and started a family. They lived in Garland for more than 40 years before moving to Mineola, Texas. They enjoyed country living and the many friends they met through the years. He finally retired at the age of 80 from the grocery business. He started working at a very young age and he never really got use to the “relaxed life”. He would say, “I would go back to work in a heartbeat if I could”.
His family will lay him to rest at noon on July 4th at the family cemetery in Tool, Texas. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider donating to Green Oaks School, 500 Houston Street, Arlington Texas.
