Ray was born Tuesday, January 25, 1949 to the late Harry and Shirley Burns in Ottumwa, Iowa. He proudly served his country by enlisting in the US Navy. He served 9 years active duty and was stationed in California and Japan. He enjoyed his adventures while stationed in Japan, playing tourist. Ray graduated at South West Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. He pastored at Faith Fellowship Baptist Church in Fort Worth and also taught classes in Sunday School. He led the young marrieds group at South Cliff Baptist Church. He loved fellowshipping with those young seminary students in our home. Ray loved fishing, crafts and spending time with family and friends. One of the most memorable times was when he surprised me with the announcement that he had earned an all expense paid trip for the two of us to go on a cruise to Alaska. Ray was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be deeply missed.
Ray is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lora Dewald; and brother, Richard Burns.
SURVIVORS: Loving wife of 41 years, Lynne Burns; son, Roger; daughter, Kathy; daughter, Christine; step sons, David and James; step daughters, Theresa and Debbie; sister, Martha Neeley; brother, Tom Burns; 20 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and many friends.

Ray was a gentleman and a wonderful friend. He and I always seem to gravitate toward each other at family get togethers. Maybe is was our shared military service
or maybe we just had a friendship that held us together. I realize he can’t be replaced but our memories of him bring us lasting comfort.

Lynne & family
I am so sorry for your loss. May that loss be tempered by the knowledge that Ray is in Christ’s loving embrace. I didn’t get to see cousin Ray often but I do know he loved God and his family.

Lynne , We are sorry to hear about Ray. We know that he was secure in his faith so we hope you can take comfort in that. As cousins here in Iowa we know we really did not know Ray as well as we would have liked. He was a humble servant of the Lord and served his country as well. I do know that he was a good man and I am a better man for knowing him. Please accept our condolences. I am so grateful that Martha kept me informed of his final struggles. Your Home now Ray, embrace the Lord.

I worked with Ray for many years at Gold star Transportation. He was a very kind man and I enjoyed his sense of humor. He will be missed greatly.
