Rene was born Tuesday, December 24, 1957, in Dallas, Texas. Growing up as a military kid, he & his family lived in several places. He would often reminisce of his childhood in Bermuda, telling stories of riding his bike and going to the movies; where he discovered the James Bond 007 franchise and would pretend to be double agents with his friends.
At a young age, Rene learned to play the guitar and fell in love with it. He enjoyed entertaining people and loved being the center of attention, he dreamed of being a rock star. As a young man, he was in a few different bands; Road Angel and Haven West were the two groups he talked about the most. He relished in the time that Haven West won the Battle of the Bands, making them local celebrities and giving them the opportunity to make music videos (still viewable on YouTube). Later, he moved to Dallas and eventually settled in Fort Worth, Texas. Rene continued to play his guitar for friends and family until the very end of his life, when he was happy, sad, sick or feeling good, he would just open the bedroom window, turn on the amp & play away. Rene will be greatly missed but never forgotten by all who knew him.
Rene was preceded into death by his parents, Rene Hurtado and Paula Hurtado. His Grandmother, Catalina Perez, Uncle and Aunt, Joe and Virginia Rivera and Aunt, Eva Parks, who all opened their hearts and took him into their homes to raise him as their own, and his Brother, Ruben Perez.
SURVIVORS: Rene is survived by his wife of 13 years, Dani Hurtado; his children, Daniel Hurtado, Nathaniel Beicke, Johnathan Hurtado, Tonya Bone and husband Mark and Wendy Angel; sisters, Evita Webb and husband Jerry and Debra Rivera; brothers, Michael Rivera, Gabriel Rivera and wife Melissa and Rafael Rivera. He was a great guy! I worked with him at Marshall Electronics in Austin, Texas. We had such a good time working and went to see Steely Dan, boating, work activities. I did meet his first wife and his son. We kept in touch via Facebook. I will always remember to good time and his funny words. We had a great time working, he will be missed. My prayers are with his family.
He loved Lockhart BBQ too!

My condolences to the family and friends of Rene. I had the pleasure of working with and talking to Rene at Fry’s Electronics. This guy always had a big smile on his face! You never would have known he was having private battles unless told by someone else. I wasn’t as close to him as a friend as I wished I could be but the few conversations we had lead me to believe he was an angel on earth. I am saddened that his light is no longer shining. Rest in heaven in God’s loving arms,Rene…
