FORT WORTH — Thelma M. Gilliland was carried away by the angels into the loving arms of Jesus on Sunday, June 12, 2016.
Graveside service: 11 a.m. Thursday in May Cemetery. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Brown, Owens & Brumley Family Funeral Home.
Thelma was born on Jan. 2, 1927, in Goree as the sixth child to Jeff and Effie Gales. She attended school in Rising Star and attained a cosmetology license from Brownwood. Thelma married Army soldier, Elick Clark on Feb. 15, 1944. She gave birth to three daughters, Sandra Mae, Janice Sue and Judy Gail. Thelma loved having a nice yard, growing vegetables and pretty flowers. She did her own yard work well into her 80s. She loved birds and animals, including all the pets in our family.
Thelma loved people and worked in retail most of her life. She sang in the White Settlement Senior Citizens choir for many years. She and Howard loved to travel, she loved the beautiful sights in Colorado, New Mexico and Tennessee.
Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Howard W. Gilliland; parents, Jeff and Effie Gales; brothers, Floyd and Clarence; sisters, Margaret, Sadie and Ethel; daughter, Janice Sue; twin granddaughters, Lori and Sherry; and great-grandson, Brandon.
Survivors: She is survived by daughters, Sandy Lusk (Emory) and Judy Johnson (Todd); grandchildren, Mike Lusk, Jon Lusk, James Lusk, Karen Copithorne, Kerry Shankles, Jeffrey Spears, Zane Spears; several great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews; and special cat friend, Missy.
