Wayne Howard Morgan

DALLAS-Wayne Howard Morgan of Dallas, TX passed away October 4, 2021 after a five-year battle with cancer. Wayne was born in San Antonio, TX, February 26, 1943 to Wayne Cole Morgan and Martha Elizabeth Howard Morgan. He was an only child.

Wayne is survived by his three daughters from his first marriage to Kerry Warner Morgan (deceased): Kelly Simmons (David), Lynn Morgan, and Patti Morgan; his grandchildren: Kyle (Olivia), Jessica, and Cory Simmons; Tyler Morgan; and Morgan Mayfield.

Wayne graduated from Douglas MacArthur high school in San Antonio, TX where he took much pride in playing the trumpet and being drum major for the band. He graduated from North Texas State University (current UNT) with a BBA in Management. Wayne became a stockbroker early in his career and fell in love with the Market. Following the Market was a lifelong hobby for him. In the 70’s, Wayne combined his business sense with his love of music and got into the nightclub business as proprietor of Dallas nightlife spots: Adobe Flats, Fannie Ann’s, Popsicle Toes, and Buster’s, as well as other food and beverage entities. The Dallas Jazz Orchestra was a Sunday night regular at Popsicle Toes. Wayne became quite active with the DJO organization. While serving on the board, he had opportunities to travel abroad with the band.

Although he loved the business, after the 1987 stock market crash, Wayne closed his doors and pursued other endeavors such as real estate and catering. He loved good food and sharing it with others. After pursuing training as a chef, he once again combined his interests, often catering events for ‘the Arts’ in the Dallas area through Yummie’s Catering in the 1990’s.

In 2004, Wayne followed his daughter, Patti, on an adventure as a contractor for KBR Halliburton in Iraq. There, he took his experience to help feed the U.S. troops. Upon returning to the states, he rounded out his career by working part-time at the North Park Williams-Sonoma store.

Wayne’s love of travel was undoubtedly spurred by the two years he lived in Puerto Rico with his parents as a child. Other hobbies of Wayne’s included photography, sailing, and scuba diving. He studied to obtain his Passenger Captain’s License, sailing to the Bahamas and surrounding areas multiple times, and even navigating the waters around Greece with his dear friend, Ken D’Angelo. His daughters fondly recall a trip sailing from Boca Raton, FL to the Bahamas–”never had we seen so many stars, such crystal blue waters, white sand, colorful fish and corals, and from our own personal boat! And yes, we even experienced being sea sick!” Wayne was fortunate to have traveled via boat and plane to many, many beautiful and interesting destinations around the world with those he loved. And if you knew Wayne, you know he experienced much of the world with a camera around his neck.

Wayne’s daughters would like to thank all his friends for enriching his life in such a meaningful and memorable way. In particular, we would like to thank the D’Angelo family and his L.A. Fitness group, as well as the musicians, co-workers, and schoolmates that colored his life.

A Celebration of Wayne’s Life will be held Nov. 21, 2021, 1-5 pm at The Balcony Club, 1825 Abrams Rd., Dallas.
